People lined the streets of downtown Cleveland and Clarkesville on Sunday as part of a nationwide protest against abortion. They stood on sidewalks and street corners holding signs promoting pro-life messages and appeals to the public to end abortion.
The protests were part of a nationwide event called Life Chain 2022. The annual event began in 1987 as a way to raise awareness of the abortion issue. Despite this year’s Supreme Court ruling overturning a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion, the protests appeared as subdued and determined as they have in year’s past.
“In Cleveland, we have a lot of travelers coming through the square so it’s very visible” says one of the organizers of Sunday’s White County event Susan Hage. “Our signs ask us as a nation to pray for the unborn or remind people that abortion does kill children and ask for forgiveness and also healing for the moms that had an abortion.”
Children and adults participated, standing silently for one hour spreading their message.
