Northeast Georgia Health System breaks ground on new medical plaza in Jefferson

Leaders from Northeast Georgia Health System and Northeast Georgia Physicians Group were joined by the mayor of the city of Jefferson on October 27, 2021, to break ground on the system’s new Medical Plaza in Jefferson, Georgia. The Medical Plaza will expand access to primary and specialty care for those in Jefferson, as well as those in neighboring cities.

JEFFERSON — Northeast Georgia Health System continues its expansion across the region, breaking ground Wednesday on its newest medical plaza in Jefferson.

“This new building helps us continue our dedication of serving the communities around us with the right care in the right place,” said NGHS President and CEO Carol Burrell. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer more appointments with more care for a variety of needs here in Jefferson.”

The single-story, 11,000-square-foot building, which is easily accessible from U.S. 129, is expected to accommodate more than 50,000 visits per year after it opens in Fall 2022.

According to NGHS, the new facility will house a new urgent care center and offer cardiology services through the health system’s Georgia Heart Institute. The Jefferson medical plaza will also offer family medicine, sports medicine, orthopedic surgery and general surgery services, as well as digital x-ray services and an on-site lab.

“The new building will also feature 26 exam rooms, which will allow four family medicine providers to practice out of it – bringing greatly expanded access to primary care for families,” states NGHS.

“Northeast Georgia Health System has been a tremendous piece of this community for years, so we’re ready for this new building to be here, making our Jefferson community even better than it already is,” said Jefferson Mayor Jon Howell.
