Monday, spend a day of summer break sleeping in, because the Helen Public Library’s Monday storytime and craft are virtual! Hear a librarian read “Oops!” by Colin McNaughton, and then put together a guided wolf craft at home. Videos post to the library’s Facebook page before noon.
Tuesday, keep your eyes peeled at the Helen Public Library during their Nature Scavenger Hunt. This outdoor event will engage kids of all ages, starting at 10 a.m., weather-permitting.
On Tuesday in Clarkesville, learn about Native Americans with Kathy Church from the Smithgall Woods Education Center. This event, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Clarkesville Public Library is one of the last summer reading program events for the year, so make sure to take advantage of these free educational programs and activities.
This Wednesday, the Cleveland Library will host storytime and crafts on the library lawn! Bring a blanket and your kiddo’s listening ears for a fun clothespin craft and a story starting at 10 a.m.. Check the library’s Facebook page for weather-related cancellations.
Thursday, Cleveland Public Library will post a virtual storytime and craft to their Facebook page. Check it out for a reading “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” by Laura Numeroff (illustrated by Felicia Bond), and make your very own mouse afterward. Videos post before noon.
At the Cornelia Public Library this Thursday, wrap up the summer reading program festivities with a treat perfect for a hot day. Kona Ice will be outside the library starting at 11 a.m..
On Thursday in Toccoa, catch a 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. showing of “Scoob!” at the Historic Ritz Theater during their Summer Movie Series. All tickets and concessions are $1.
This weekend…
Celebrate the end of the workweek with free entertainment and fresh produce. The Downtown Gainesville farmers market starts at 2:30 p.m. and goes to 6 on Friday. Enjoy fresh produce, baked goods, crafts and much more alongside live music on the historic Gainesville Square.
Friday in Toccoa at 7 p.m., Buddy Liles and “Blood Bought,” will perform a free Southern Gospel concert at the Historic Ritz Theater.
At Freedom Park in Cleveland on Friday night, bring the family and a picnic blanket for a free showing of “A Bug’s Life,” beginning at dark, complete with free popsicles, popcorn and drinks. Free movies at Freedom Park will run throughout July on Friday nights, hosted by Cleveland First Baptist Church.
Saturday, head out to the White County Farmers Market for all your local produce, food and handmade craft needs. The market opens at 7:30 a.m. and goes to noon at Freedom Park.
Meet with Native Peace Garden Manager Johnna Tuttle at the Sautee Nacoochee Center to learn about gardening in Northeast Georiga at “Gardening with Native Plants,” a free class starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the Native Peace Garden. Hang around after for a class with UGA Horticulture graduate and SNCA volunteer, Jake Blaydes. “Composites and Last-
Minute Pruning,” starting at 10 a.m., will teach you everything you need to know when it comes to pruning those spring plants. Bring a pair of pruners with to practice!
Learn about the flora and fauna living and growing in your backyard during “Discovery Saturdays” at the Elachee Nature Center. Start the day with a guided wildflower hike at 10 a.m., and in the afternoon, meet some of the nature center’s resident animals. The live animal showcase runs at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., both experiences are included in admission. Registration is required for both events, so click here to save your spot.
Wrap up the day in Downtown Toccoa at the Ida Cox Music Series, a free live music event going throughout the summer. This week, Joe Holtt of Nashville takes the stage at 7 p.m. for an evening of country and bluegrass.
