Whether you’re planning your week around making summertime memories with the kids, enjoying the warm weather and outdoor concerts this time of year brings, gearing up for Independence Day, or all of the above, there’s something for you! Check out this week’s local events, happening in (and around) Habersham.

This week…

On Monday the 28, tune into the White County Public Library’s virtual crafts and storytime; this online event streams on their Facebook page at 9:45 a.m.!

In Hall County, spend Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. playing board games, video games, card games and solving puzzles at the North Hall Technology Center’s Family Fun Night. Everyone is welcome to attend.

If you’re looking for an evening event for little readers, Hall County Library will have their weekly Twilight Storytime on Monday at the Rose Creek Park Amphitheater from 6:15 p.m. to 7.

The Georgia Public Library summer reading program for 2021 is “Tails and Tales,” focusing on stories and activities surrounding all kinds of animals, from those you can find in your backyard to creatures on the other side of the globe.

Tuesday the 29, head over to the Helen Library with the White County Public Library Summer Reading Program to learn all about Georgia’s wildlife with Kathy Church from the Smithgall Woods State Park Education Center. This event starts at 10 a.m. and takes place outside– if the weather isn’t looking too sunshiney, check the library’s Facebook page for cancelations.

From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., make your own slime at the Clarkesville Library during the Clarkesville Library’s Summer Reading Slime Fest!

In Hall County, catch a morning or evening show of “Todd Key’s Flying Debris,” a family-friendly comedy show with impressive feats of balance and dangerous juggling! Bring a blanket and the family for a show on the Smithgall Arts Council Lawn at 10:00 a.m., or for the evening show at 6:00 p.m. at Lanier Olympic Park.

This Wednesday the 30, start your day at the Cherokee Bluffs Park Amphitheater at 10:00 a.m. for outdoor storytime with the Hall County Public Library System. Bring a blanket and the little ones for stories, puppets, music and dancing!

On Thursday, July 1, catch a morning or evening showing of “Wonder Woman 1984” during the Historic Ritz Theater’s $1 Summer Movie Series. Showings run at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.; tickets and concessions are $1.

At the Cornelia Library, bring out your kiddo’s creative side with the library’s painting day! This event, starting at 11 a.m., will be taught by Mrs. Morgan Smith, the art teacher at Woodville and Hazel Grove Elementary Schools. In the evening, the Clarkesville Library will finish out their Slime Fest event from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., so be sure to make your own slime before the fun ends!

This weekend…

The first Friday of the month brings evenings of live music to Downtown Dahlonega. Friday the 2nd at 6:30 p.m., catch Radford Windham and Step-Back Cadillac in Hancock Park.

Saturday the 3rd, the Ida Cox Music Series in Toccoa continues at 7 p.m. with the Edgar Loudermilk Bluegrass Band taking the stage in Downtown Toccoa.

In Downtown Dahlonega, the Independence Day celebrations kick off early with events starting at 10 a.m. and going until 5 p.m. on Saturday. Spend the day in Dahlonega for street vendors, a car show, a parade, family fun, a hotdog eating contest, a performance by the Dahlonega Action Dogs, music and more! On Sunday, the Fourth of July, grab your lawn chairs and picnic blankets as you make your way to Downtown Demorest for the city’s Glorious Fourth event. With performances by local country stars John King and Gregg Irwin followed by a fabulous firework display, this event will be one for the books. This free event kicks off at 7 p.m. and is perfect for the whole family.

In Hiawassee, the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds will also host an Independence Day fireworks show. Admission and parking are both free for this evening for fireworks and music. Local group “The Vintage Vixens” will take the stage from 6:30 to 8 p.m., followed by the fairgrounds’ firework show.

Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lula has invited their community to join them for the Fourth with free food, gospel tunes, and a fireworks show to finish off the night. Activities start at 4 p.m. and fireworks shoot off at dusk.
