North Oconee upset nets region title

North Oconee was ranked No. 9 in Class 4A last week, so it wasn’t that people underestimated the Titans. Jefferson, ranked No. 1, just seemed invincible, a 19-point favorite by the computer Maxwell Rankings.

With an 11-6 victory, North Oconee became the first to hold the Dragons to six points or fewer since 2016, the first to do it in the regular season since 2011.

North Oconee also ended Jefferson’s 15-game winning streak in region games, 16-game streak in home games and 24-game streak in regular-season games.

Most importantly to North Oconee, the victory came with the prize of the Region 8-4A title, the Titans’ first league championship since 2012.
