Friday night scores and recaps from Week 9 of Northeast Georgia high school football.
Dawson County 14, White County 0
The Tigers stunned White County in a 14-0 final, marking a second straight shutout for Dawson County and handing the Warriors their first shutout since 2020…against these same Tigers. Dawson used a dual QB system with Preston Bannister and Gunnar Weaver. Both had TDs, with Bannister’s coming in the first on a 1-yd plunge, and Weaver heaving a 61-yd TD to Dylan Edwards in the second. It was all Dawson needed, as the defense forced four turnover on downs and a missed field goal, and the offense absolutely drained the clock.
#8 Rabun County 48, Oglethorpe County 14
The Wildcats grabbed a 48-14 win to get back in the win column at home. Reid Giles was the usual suspect, scoring on a run in the first. Ty Truelove then heaved a 67-yd TD to Jake Payne before the visitors responded. By halftime, it was 35-14 in favor of Rabun, and Truelove threw another TD early in the second half before Lake Evans polished it off with a 16-yd TD run.
#3 Jefferson 49, East Hall 7
Jefferson had no problems with the Vikings in a 49-7 drumming. Gavin Markey had an 8-yd TD run in the first to tie the game at 7 apiece. Mickell Pittman put the Dragons ahead in the second with a 3-yd TD, and Markey then hit Talan Childress for a 35-yd TD. Dallas Russell had a 7-yd TD to push it up to 28-7 going into the half. Markey opened the second half with a 56-yd TD to Dalton Dye on the first play from scrimmage, and Rett Hemphill had a 7-yd TD run as well. Russell closed the scoring with a TD run in the third.
Habersham Central 52, Alcovy 17
Hab Central needed a win in a big way, and got it with a 52-17 thumping on the road. It marked the second 50-plus point output of the season for the Raiders, who get back to .500 in region play with the victory.
Elbert County 33, Banks County 0
The Leopards again still search for that elusive first win, as Elbert County handed Banks a 33-0 defeat.
Lumpkin County 64, Johnson 14
Lumpkin County throttled Johnson 64-14, making the second-most points in an Indians game since 1967 in a 73-0 final over East Fannin. It’s worth noting that Johnson had scored all of 7 total points until getting 14 in this one.
Towns County 21, Spartanburg (SC) 14
The Indians came up with yet ANOTHER goal line stand to win a game, this time at Spartanburg. Towns County won 21-14, as Dustin Barrett accounted for all 3 TDs with well over 200 rushing yards on the night. This gives Towns a 5th win for the first time since 2017.
