North Georgians take stand against abortion during Life Chain event

The threat of rain did not deter forty plus pro-life supporters from turning out Sunday afternoon in downtown Cleveland for the annual Life Chain event. They lined up along Main Street holding signs and praying.

Cleveland was among 67 communities in Georgia that registered to participate in the annual observance, according to the Life Chain Network. Similar demonstrations were held in towns across North Georgia including Clarkesville, Gainesville, Franklin Springs, Lavonia, and Hartwell, among others.

Organizers of the annual Life Chain event say more than 1,500 towns and cities in the U.S. and Canada and the U.S. territory of Guam were expected to participate in the event which is held annually on the first Sunday in October. The event is coordinated by local churches and congregations through the Life Chain Network.

This marks the 32nd year that the Life Chain event has been held. People in White and Habersham counties have participated for the past several years.

White County Right To Life Coordinator Susan Hage said Sunday’s turnout was great. Many of the motorists showed their support by honking their horns. Some gave them thumbs-up signs as they drove by.

“We’ve killed almost 20 percent of our population with 60-million babies, that’s two generations, and it’s time to end it,” said Hage.
