A Brasleton man is wanted for allegedly bilking thousands of dollars from a false insurance claim. Willie Lanier is accused of claiming a package of jewelry was lost in the mail, the state insurance commissioner’s office said in a news release.
Investigators say Lanier filed an insurance claim in November 2021, saying the jewelry was lost in the mail while being shipped to New York for appraisal. He included a package receipt as part of his claim and additional receipts listing the jewelry’s value at over $25,000.
When the claim was later investigated, authorities discovered the package receipt was fake and the mail carrier had not picked up the jewelry.
Gwinnett County authorities issued warrants against Lanier on March 14, charging him with insurance fraud and forgery. The 40-year-old Lanier remains wanted at this time.
