North Georgia man arrested in child sex trafficking case

A 67-year-old Pickens County man is accused of offering money in exchange for sexual contact with a child, the GBI says.

Agents arrested Roland Buchanan on Monday, September 13. They charged him with attempting to commit the offense of human trafficking, criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, one count of pandering, and sexual exploitation of children.

Acting on a tip, agents with the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit investigated the case along with Homeland Security in Dalton and the Hall and Pickens County Sheriff’s offices. Their investigation led to a search warrant at a home in Jasper, Georgia, that resulted in the collection of evidence tying Buchanan to the alleged crime.

According to the GBI, the evidence revealed that “on multiple occasions, Buchanan was offering currency to an adult in exchange for sexual contact with a child who resided outside of the United States.”

Officials arrested and transported Buchanan to the Pickens County jail.

His arrest is the latest in the GBI’s ongoing effort to identify and stop online child predators.
