Non-profits eye River Point building

The Habersham United Believers (HUB) met along with other interested parties to discuss the potential of leasing or purchasing the former River Point building as a community center to meet the needs of people. Blake Foster, executive director of HUB, stressed the importance of having the building as a “hospital for social needs.” In describing his vision, Foster stressed, “Imagine being able to diagnose and assist in a solution for a person seeking help. We would be able to ask the important question, ‘Why are you really here?'”

The facility would also provide ample space to host such programs as Focus on the Family seminars, marriage conferences, banquets, and community gatherings. “Because the auditorium seats 250 to 300 people, we would be able to bring to the community a place to come together under one roof.”

Vice-Chairman Cliff Brown believes, “God is moving in our area.” He loves the potential of having a facility to witness to people about the love of Jesus Christ and demonstrate the desire to help individuals where they need it the most. Brown indicated the importance of offering the community an all inclusive place where HUB can provide emotional, physical, and spiritual help to people.

Dr. Kevin Mangum, pastor of River Point Community Church, emphasized his desire that the building would remain a facility used for the Kingdom of God. “Of course, we would love to see it continue to be used as a church or in some capacity for ministry.”

The Building, approximately 12,000 square feet, is located at 193 North Main Street in Cornelia, Georgia.
