School system officials said no injuries were reported when a Habersham County school bus rear-ended a 2018 Honda Accord at a very low speed on Monday, March 3.

The bus moved at about 1-2 mph just before 3:45 p.m. Monday when it hit the rear of the Honda on Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway, according to GSP.

Incoming Habersham County School System Superintendent Patrick Franklin told Now Habersham that none of the 30-plus students on board were injured.

The damage to the vehicle was minimal, according to Franklin, and limited only to scuffed paint.

Without discussing specific personnel matters regarding the driver of the bus, Franklin stated safety remains the school system’s top priority.  “It was very minimal,” he said. “The students barely knew anything had happened.”

Franklin added that Habersham school officials are always looking at safety to identify any potential improvements.

“We look at all instances where we can improve and do things better for our students,” he said.
