ADAIRSVILLE — On the strength of a solid first round, Truett McConnell captured the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women’s Golf Championship, winning by 11 strokes over second-place Milligan.
The tournament was held Tuesday, May 3, at the Barnsley Gardens Resort in Northwest Georgia’s Adairsville.
Truett McConnell fired a 305 for an 11-stroke lead in the opening round and wrapped up with a 310 in the second round for a 615 final tally. Milligan was second at 626, while SCAD Atlanta (643), Reinhardt (672), and Tennessee Wesleyan (683) rounded out the top five.
Brenau (685), Point (716), and Montreat (735) completed the field.
The Lady Bears were crowned AAC Regular Season Champions and AAC Tournament Champs. They’re the first team in TMU Golf history to earn both conference titles. The Bears’ MinJi Kang was named AAC Player of the Year. Coach Steve Patton was named AAC Head Coach of the Year.
“This was such a momentous occasion for our golf program! We have been building this program for several years and to see it come to fruition with a conference championship was such a blessing,” says Patton.
Kang placed first overall, posting a 6-under 137. It was her seventh consecutive victory, earning her spots on the All-Tournament Team and All-Conference First Team. Sophomore Madison Panter followed with a sixth-place finish and earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Freshman Audrey Grace Holder tied for tenth and was named to the All-Conference Second Team.

By securing the team victory, TMU punched its ticket to the NAIA National Championships. The Lady Bears will travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from May 24-27 for the tournament.
