The Rabun County Commission Post 1 incumbent Will Nichols won his contested race for a fifth term. He received 8,070 votes or 79.68%. His democratic challenger, Maria Loveless received 2,058 votes or 20.32%.

After receiving the news, the 16 year commission veteran was pleased with the results. “I would just like to say and thank everyone that supported me and worked with me and helped me do what we’ve done,” Nichols said. He hopes that the citizens of Rabun County continue to support him and the board of commissioners. “I hope they will continue to pray for us as a board and the future of Rabun County.”

However, one race was not decided Tuesday night in Rabun County. The Rabun County Board of Education Post 5 seat will not be decided until Wednesday afternoon. The race was by write-in only, so no candidate’s name was on the ballot. The Rabun County Elections Office will begin to hand count those ballots Wednesday morning.

The Rabun County Elections Office reports that overall, 10,524 ballots were cast. However, only 4,162 ballots were cast in the Board of Education Post 5 race.
