North Georgia Technical College recently announced Devin Deshazer, a Criminal Justice major from Toccoa, as the 2019 Georgia Occupational Award for Leadership (GOAL) winner.

In order to be chosen as the GOAL student, you must first be nominated by an instructor. Students then complete in a series of interviews and one is selected as the winner. The college level winners then move on to compete at the regional level, after which nine compete at state in March.

The state winner receives a new car.

“Recognizing students is always exciting, but recognizing students through the GOAL Program is even more significant at NGTC because of our history,” says Fran Chastain, NGTC Dean for Student Affairs. “GOAL was founded at NGTC and then adopted throughout the state through the leadership of two phenomenal men: past NGTC President Jim Marlowe and Bob Evans.”

“Devin was not only chosen as the GOAL winner, but was also selected as the Marlowe-Evans Scholarship recipient, due to his dedicated community service and work with local teens,” she says. “He is a good speaker with big goals both personally and professionally.”

Other finalists for the GOAL award were Cheryl White of Hiawassee, Shannon Sutton of Clarkesville and Chase Burdette of Comer.
