North Georgia Technical College has named Kelly McFarland of Toccoa as its 2022 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education award winner. As EAGLE winner, McFarland will represent the college at the Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE Leadership Institute March 14-16, 2022. The Leadership Institute, sponsored by the Technical College System of Georgia, recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs.
McFarland is pursuing a degree in horticulture at NGTC.
EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits, according to the college.
“Kelly is a motivated lady willing to work hard for anything,” says NGTC Adult Education instructor Jackie Morgan. “She was determined to obtain her GED and she accomplished it. We are so happy and proud of her work!”
“Recognizing these students who have worked diligently to achieve their goal of receiving their high school equivalency diploma and then to be selected as an EAGLE winner gives us great pride in our mission,” says NGTC Dean of Adult Education Shelby Ward. “We know she will represent North Georgia Technical College well at the next level of competition.”
