NGTC instructor injured in student wreck

A North Georgia Technical College instructor is recovering from injuries he suffered when a student driver overturned a bucket truck used for training in the college’s electrical lineworker program. The accident happened at 3:45 p.m. Monday on New Liberty Road near the NGTC Clarkesville campus.

The Georgia State Patrol says 20-year old Ryan Cowan of Toccoa was driving the truck north on New Liberty when he ran off the shoulder of the road and lost control. The truck overturned onto its right side, blocking the northbound lane.

66-year old Jerry McAfee of Cleveland was a passenger in the truck. He was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with head injuries. Cowan was not injured.

New Liberty was shut down for several hours while the scene was cleared. It reopened by 6 p.m. The GSP says no citations were issued.
