Northeast Georgia Medical Center one of only two hospitals in Georgia to make Healthgrades’ Top 50 list this year

Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville has again been named one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades.

The online medical information resource company on Tuesday released its list of America’s 50 and 100 Best Hospitals™ for 2017. Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville is the only other Georgia hospital to make this year’s list. It, too, ranks in the top 50.

“Hospitals that have achieved America’s Best Hospitals distinction have sustained high quality outcomes for their patients over many years and often, offer programs that engage consumers and their overall communities in their care,” says Healthgrades chief medical officer, Dr. Brad Bowman.

America’s 50 Best Hospitals™ are in the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for providing overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of conditions and procedures consistently for at least six consecutive years.

America’s 100 Best Hospitals™ are in the top 2% of hospitals in the nation for exhibiting clinical excellence for at least three consecutive years.

In a press release announcing this year’s awards, Healthgrades says patients treated in hospitals achieving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award have, on average, a 27.1% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award. “These hospitals exhibit exceptional, comprehensive, and consistent quality year over year. Simply put, patients are more likely to have a successful treatment without major complications—and have a lower chance of dying—at America’s Best Hospitals,” the release states.

Healthgrades’ analysis of clinical outcomes is based on more than 45 million Medicare medical claims records for the most recent three-year time period available from nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide. There are 23 states in which no hospital received the award.
