GAINESVILLE, GA. – The North Georgia Community Foundation is currently accepting applications for its annual scholarship cycle. Students across North Georgia may submit applications through March 1, 2021.
“Scholarships empower students to continue their educational journeys and make a better life for themselves and their families,” says President and CEO of the North Georgia Community Foundation Michelle Prater. “The individuals and organizations we work with have established these scholarships because they believe in the importance of investing in the future of our next generation.”
The Community Foundation currently administers 65 active scholarship funds, each with its own award amount, specific purpose, and eligibility criteria. The scholarship cycle includes awards from scholarship funds that have been with NGCF for over 30 years, as well as several newly established scholarship opportunities, which include:
- Susan Bible Jessup Memorial Scholarship will be awarded for the first time to a graduating senior from Gainesville High School who demonstrates financial need and desires to pursue their education at a public college, university or technical school in Georgia. Extra-curricular involvement and merit will also be considered. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required to be eligible for this scholarship.
- Jan Black-Mary Lawson North Hall High School Scholarship is available to a graduating senior from North Hall High School who has made an impact on his/her school and community. A combination of merit and financial need will be considered, and priority will be given to those applicants who are first-generation college students.
- Shirley Black McDonald Looking Back Scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior graduating from White County High School who has an interest in history and/or journalism. This is the second year of the award.
- Russell and Sandra Davis Scholarship is awarding for its second year, to a graduating senior, with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who attends a high school in Hall, Gwinnett, or DeKalb counties and plans to pursue their post-secondary education in Georgia. The scholarship is based on a combination of merit and financial need.
- Catherine Green Hardie Memorial Scholarship provides an opportunity for graduating seniors from Rabun County High School who plan to further their education at an accredited university or college. This is the second year this scholarship will be awarded to recognize students who display strong work ethic and financial need.

Scholarship award amounts range from $500 to $15,000, depending on the scholarship fund. Applications are reviewed by scholarship committees that include community volunteers as well as members from the NGCF board and staff. The student information on the applications remains anonymous, ensuring that the awards are made to deserving students who meet the criteria established within the individual scholarship funds.
In the 2020 scholarship application cycle, the North Georgia Community Foundation awarded nearly 200 scholarships totaling $385,000.
