This week, the North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) awarded $135,000 in emergency grants to 12 nonprofits across North Georgia that are helping those directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In mid-March, NGCF created the NGCF Coronavirus (COVID-19) Relief Fund in order to address needs immediately. In addition to this fund that individuals and companies can donate to, NGCF also announced that their entire 2020 grant funding will be used to support nonprofits across North Georgia helping those who are suffering because of this pandemic.
“NGCF believes it is our responsibility to help strengthen our community during a crisis like this. We are standing in the gap, supporting those organizations that are on the front lines providing direct assistance to those impacted,” says NGCF President & CEO Michelle Prater.

Prater thanks those who have “generously given to our fund” and says donations have allowed the foundation to increase its giving. They provided matching grants to the Sunrise Rotary Club in Lumpkin County and the Lake Rabun Association in Rabun County. Both community associations decided to support local nonprofits and NGCF matched their gifts 100%. NGCF also is providing a matching grant to the United Way of Forsyth County to assist nonprofits in Forsyth and Dawson counties.
“We understand that it is important to move resources quickly and give money in strategic ways to address these critical needs,” says Prater. “Ultimately, the way to make the greatest impact is by all of us working together and these are three great examples of what that can bring.”
