Just recently, from January 7-11, over 50 freshman cadets at the University of North Georgia finished their introduction to the Corps of Cadets for the school’s Freshman Recruit Orientation Group (FROG) Week.
The almost week-long orientation marked a milestone for the cadets as they took their first steps toward becoming part of UNG’s renowned military program.
Julian Trollinger, an Adairsville native, among the troop of new cadets, is now pursuing a degree in cybersecurity. UNG is known to have one of the top cybersecurity programs in the U.S.
Trollinger, a member of the Georgia Army National Guard and a recipient of the Georgia Military Service Scholarship, chose to attend UNG for its military-oriented culture and the university’s strong cybersecurity program.
“They’re focused on helping us learn and grow,” Trollinger said.
UNG student Ben Hayes, a junior from Johns Creek, is looking to earn a degree in accounting. Hayes, who serves as the 2nd Battalion command sergeant major, was instrumental in leading the planning and execution of FROG Week.
As a seasoned cadet with years of experience in the Corps, Hayes guided the freshman recruits through a rigorous introduction to military life at UNG.
“It’s nice to smooth the transition for these guys and ease nerves,” Hayes said.
Cadet Ashleigh Sheppard, a junior from Dawsonville pursuing a degree in sociology, serves as brigade public affairs officer for the Corps of Cadets. One of her main objectives is taking photos of Corps events.
“I feel genuinely proud looking at these new cadets as they graduate from FROG Week,” she said.
