Driver charged in Talmadge Drive rollover wreck

The Georgia State Patrol has released the names of the four people involved in a two-vehicle rollover wreck that happened Thursday in North Habersham.

One person was seriously injured.

Austin Leverette was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. GSP says Leverette was a passenger in a Toyota 4Runner that overturned after it drifted into the wrong lane, swerved and sideswiped an oncoming Jeep Wrangler.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. on Talmadge Drive/GA 17 Alternate South near the Stephens County line.

“When we arrived we found almost a head-on accident with one vehicle over the guardrail overturned,” says Habersham EMS Services Director Chad Black.

Emergency responders had to extricate victims from the wreckage. In all, four people were involved. Three of them, including Leverette, were in the Toyota.  The 21–year-old driver of that vehicle is identified as Dakota Lee Scott of Turnerville. The other passenger is identified as Jordan Williams. They sustained minor injuries, according to GSP.

The driver of the Jeep, 76-year-old Robert Wiley of Clarkesville, also suffered minor injuries.

The accident blocked the southbound lane of GA 17 South. Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was called in to investigate.

Scott has been charged with failure to maintain lane.
