After years of planning and construction, the Lynda and Ted Doll Native Plant Nursery is finally open at the Sautee Nacoochee Center (SNC) campus in Sautee, Georgia.
The new nursery is part of the Environmental Stewardship and Preservation Native Plant Initiative at SNC and will serve as a teaching facility for adults, children, and landscape professionals. The nursery will also sell plants, primarily through two native plant sales each spring and fall.
SNC hosted the opening ceremony on Tuesday, May 28, unveiling a sign that reads, “The Lynda and Ted Doll Native Plant Nursery.” The local couple graciously accepted the honor as an emotional audience toasted them.
The Dolls share a love of the natural world and have put much time and energy into protecting it.
After the dedication, Lynda said, “If asked to have a sign with my name on it, I would have said no, but there is nothing I would rather have my name on than this nursery.”
A nature-loving legacy
Local community volunteers helped build the nursery, which is located at the south end of the SNC campus. Among them were Gerald Richardson and Rich Brown, both of Clarkesville. Cathy Chadwick of Sautee designed the graphic for the sign.
Lynda and Ted Doll have been active members of the SNC since 1998 and have contributed significantly to the organization. They have been involved in numerous projects, including the restoration of a church and the construction of a new nursery.
The opening of the new nursery is a significant milestone for the SNC and the Environmental Stewardship and Preservation Native Plant Initiative. The nursery is expected to be a popular attraction for visitors to the SNC campus and will also serve as an educational center for those interested in learning about the importance of native plants for the environment.
