(Helen) – It’s official, that storm that moved through northern White and Habersham counties late Saturday night was a tornado.
The high winds associated with the system downed numerous trees and power lines in and around the Top Of Georgia Airstream Park on Highway 75, north of Helen. The storm uprooted trees and caused additional power outages in the Orchard community and Bear Gap area in Habersham County.
White County Public Safety Director David Murphy says National Weather Service officials visited the area in White County and confirmed that the storm was an EF1 tornado.
“Not only did they look at the damage there,” Murphy says, “they went back and reviewed radar data.” He says the radar out of Greenville, South Carolina picked up the tornado.
No one was injured in the storm.
