The Baldwin Police Department hosted its first-ever National Night Out event Tuesday. Police Chief Chris Jones says it was a “success.”
The event brings together residents and first responders for an evening of community food and fellowship. It aims to foster mutual understanding between the groups.
Baldwin held its event in the downtown city park. Jones says he and his officers fed over 200 residents.
Around 50 law enforcement and other public safety personnel from Habersham and surrounding counties attended.
“I want to thank all of the public safety officers that came out and supported this event. I also want to thank our sponsors-Sam’s Club, Ingles, and Quality Foods for the food and supplies. It wouldn’t have been possible without our sponsors and all of the staff at the police department,” says Jones.
Baldwin was just one of many communities across the country to observe National Night Out. The annual observance is held on the first Tuesday in August. The organization behind the event says it “enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.”
Local participating agencies included the Baldwin and Alto police departments, Banks and Habersham County sheriff’s offices, Baldwin Fire Department, Habersham County Fire and EMS, and Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.
National Night Out marked the second well-attended event Baldwin has hosted in the past week. On July 30, the city’s Back to School Bash welcomed over 400 students and families from around the area.
