The Baldwin Police Department will host a National Night Out event from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 1. The event will take place at 110 Airport Road in the downtown area, across from the Baldwin farmer’s market.
The event takes place in communities across the nation on the first Tuesday in August each year. It is an opportunity for law enforcement and residents to meet one another in an effort to build safer, stronger communities.
According to the National Night Out website, this nationwide event “enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.”
Baldwin PD has invited first responders from other agencies to participate in Tuesday’s event to give people in the community a chance to meet them, as well. The event will include firefighters from Baldwin and Habersham County, county EMS, and police from other cities within the county.
The county fire department will bring its “Smoke House” to conduct fire safety demonstrations.
There will be free food, games, and inflatables on hand for those that attend.
“It means they (residents) get to meet and hang out with police officers and firefighters in a stress-free environment while the officers prepare the food,” says Baldwin Police Chief Chris Jones. “To sum it up, it’s a chance for the citizens to see the officers on equal footing.”
