National Day of Service and Remembrance This Friday

Friday is National Day of Service and Remembrance. The day was designated by Congress in 2009 as an annual commemoration of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on America. The day spotlights the service and sacrifice of First Responders and U.S. military personnel.

Service projects are being planned in communities across the nation and here in Habersham you, too, have a chance to serve.

A community-wide 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Clarkesville Gazebo on Friday, September 11, at 5 p.m. The ceremony will be followed by a First Responder Appreciation Reception at Clarkesville City Hall. Food and funds are still needed to help with the event.

NEGA Farm to School Regional Coordinator Maggie Van Cantfort is one of the organizers. She’s asking individuals and organizations to help in one of the following three ways:

  1. Prepare one farm-to-table dish
  2. Order food from a restaurant or caterer
  3. Provide funds to purchase food

To volunteer your help or make a donation, contact Van Cantfort at 706-768-8883 or email her at maggie@georgiaorganics.
