Quick action by residents and firefighters helped avert potential disaster when a bathroom at Cameron Apartments in Clarkesville caught on fire. Officials say the fire was ignited when acetone nail polish remover came into contact with an open flame from a candle.

A caller from inside the apartment at 122 Cameron Circle alerted 911 around 9:49 p.m. on December 28. A fire engine in the area immediately responded. Fire alarms in the building alerted residents and they were actively exiting the building when firefighters arrived.

“A small fire was located in the bathroom of an apartment on the second floor. Personnel quickly extinguished the fire and contained it in the room of origin,” says Clarkesville Fire Department Chief Jason Poole.
