Qualifying for municipal elections in Habersham County ended at noon on Friday, August 25. There are 19 offices up for election in November. Seven of those races are contested.
Multiple candidates have qualified to run in each of the mayoral races in Alto, Baldwin, and Tallulah Falls. Other contested races include the Post 3 Clarkesville City Council seat and at-large city council races in Demorest, Mt. Airy, and Tallulah Falls.
Incumbent Demorest City Councilmember John Hendrix did not qualify to run for reelection, and neither did incumbent Post 1 Baldwin City Councilmember Larry Lewallen nor Post 2 Baldwin City Councilmember Theron Ayers.
Write-in candidates may still qualify to run through noon Friday, September 1.
