A six-car pileup on GA 365 South in Demorest snarled traffic and sent two people to the hospital early Wednesday. State troopers say heavy fog contributed to the wreck.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on January 18, just north of Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, vehicles in the southbound left lane were stopped and slowing due to the fog when a Chevy Silverado pickup truck struck a Chevy Cruze driven by Jacob Scott, 32, of Clayton. The impact set off a chain reaction wreck involving a Jeep Wrangler, another Chevy Cruze, and Mercury Cougar.
Scott’s vehicle wound up in the northbound lanes and was hit by a Ford F-150. Scott suffered suspected serious injuries. The Jeep driver, Tyler Woodall, 30, of Clarkesville, sustained minor injuries.
The pickup truck driver, Travis Bleckley, 52, of Clayton, escaped without injury. None of the other drivers were hurt, according to troopers.
Habersham EMS transported the injured patients to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
As crews worked to clear the scene, police detoured northbound traffic onto Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway. Southbound traffic was backed up for more than a mile.
The northbound lanes of GA 365 reopened around 7:30 a.m. and first responders cleared the scene at 7:36 a.m.
Troopers with Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the crash. No charges were filed.
