Mt. Airy workshop fire ruled arson

Investigators are searching for whoever’s responsible for a recent fire that burned a workshop in Mt. Airy. An investigation revealed the fire was intentionally set.

The blaze broke out shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at 4451 Camp Creek Road. The 41-year-old, 700-square-foot building was located in the woods near a residence. The outbuilding housed several cars and other items.

An investigator from the State Fire Investigations Unit is working with Habersham County Emergency Services on the case and ruled Monday, it was arson.

According to State Safety Fire Commissioner John King, Adam Henson, 32, occupied the building. He told investigators there was no power to the shop and said several items were taken at the time of the fire. The building is believed to be owned by Alice Henson, 67, of Dahlonega, King says.

The investigation remains open.
