Mt. Airy woman charged in wreck that injured three

A Mt. Airy woman is charged with following too closely in connection with a wreck that sent three people to the hospital.

Sr. Trooper Jason Stephens of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa says 27-year old Sandra Contreras was cited in the wreck that temporarily closed part of Mt. Airy’s main thoroughfare Friday.

He says Contreras was driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey van southbound on Dicks Hill Parkway when the driver in front of her slowed to turn right onto 1st Street. Contreras’ van rear-ended the 2003 Ford Ranger pickup which was hauling a trailer. The trailer separated and the pickup overturned.

The driver of the pickup, 55-year old Timothy Blackburn of Mt. Airy, suffered upper extremity injuries. He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by ambulance.

Contreras and a 2-year old passenger in her car were checked for complaint of injuries. Stephens says the child was properly restrained.

The accident was reported at 3:17 p.m. Dicks Hill Parkway was shut down for about thirty minutes as crews cleared the scene.
