The Georgia State Patrol charged a Mt. Airy woman with DUI after she wrecked on Chase Road near Cornelia City Park.

Diane Medlin Canup, 70, was also charged with failure to maintain lane and failure to exercise due regard following the wreck Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Canup was driving a Jeep Cherokee south on Wyly Street shortly after 2 p.m. on August 9 when she failed to negotiate a left curve.

“She drove onto a roadside embankment, struck a roadside speed limit sign, and came to a final rest facing south on the shoulder [of the roadway],” the preliminary state patrol crash report states.

Canup sustained a possible minor injury, but 911 records indicate she refused treatment.

Authorities arrested Canup at the scene and booked her at the Habersham County detention Center. She was released from jail on a $2,670 bond.
