The State Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled Andrew Dylan Claborn’s death accidental. The 33-year-old Cleveland man was found dead near the railroad tracks in Mt. Airy on May 29. An autopsy revealed Claborn died of multiple blunt force impact injuries due to being hit by a train.

Mt. Airy Police Chief Tim Jarrell released the autopsy findings.

“We have no video evidence of him [Claborn] in front of the train,” Chief Jarrell tells Now Habersham. “We do have video of a person believed to be him in the area as a train was approaching and passing.”

As part of their investigation, officials pulled videos from trains that passed through the area that morning. At 2:41 a.m., a camera on a southbound train captured images of a person matching Claborn’s description. Four hours later, at 6:42 a.m., a southbound Amtrak train camera captured images of the body. Around 8:23 a.m., a Norfolk Southern employee on another train spotted the body and called Habersham County 911.

Habersham County Assistant Coroner Ken Franklin says Claborn had been dead several hours by the time authorities were alerted.

Before his death, Claborn had been staying with an acquaintance on 4th Street in Mt. Airy. Police say that’s where he was last seen at 6 p.m. the day before his body was discovered. Jarrell says officers were able to retrieve some of Claborn’s personal items near where he was found. They’re still awaiting the results of toxicology reports. The investigation is ongoing.
