Mt. Airy man killed, two injured in wreck on Toccoa Hwy.

A Mt. Airy man was killed and a woman and child injured in a wreck on GA 17 south of Jess Kinney Road.

36-year old Jess Len Sanders died Wednesday evening after the 1992 Chevrolet GMT 400 pickup truck he was driving collided with a 2009 Chevy Silverado K150 driven by 28-year old Jessica Ellen Dodd of Mt. Airy.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol says Sanders was traveling southbound negotiating a curve on GA 17/Toccoa Hwy. when he crossed the center line and ran into Dodd’s path in the northbound lane. Dodd swerved to miss him but Sanders’ pickup struck her truck in the left front fender and bumper, according to the report.

Both trucks spun out of control. Sanders’ truck came to rest in the northbound lane facing east. Dodd’s pickup spun across the southbound lane and onto the west shoulder of the road where it overturned through a ditch and up an embankment before finally coming to rest against a pasture fence.

Dodd and a passenger in her vehicle, 4-year old Peyton Dodd, also of Mt. Airy, were transported by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center where they were treated and released.
