A Mt. Airy man faces a whole host of charges following a vehicle pursuit, wreck, and foot chase over the weekend in Baldwin. Georgia State Trooper TFC John Crawford says 26-year-old Jonathan Vangoosen fled in his pickup when Crawford attempted to stop him. Vangoosen was traveling east on Kudzu Hill Drive and, according to Crawford, began driving in a “very reckless” and “aggressive” manner.

During the chase, Vangoosen drove off the road to avoid law enforcement vehicles. When he tried to get back onto the roadway the left rear side of the 1995 Chevy S10 pickup truck he was driving struck the left rear corner of a Baldwin Police patrol car. The impacted deflated one of the truck’s tires. Vangoosen continued to flee and officers pursued him a short distance on GA 365 Southbound.

The chase finally ended when Baldwin Police conducted a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Vangoosen then fled on foot, according to Crawford. He was taken into custody after a foot chase involving several agencies.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon. No one was injured.

Vangoosen is charged with hit and run, obstructing or hindering a law enforcement officer, fleeing or attempting to elude, probation violation, and texting while driving among other charges.
