Spiritual highs – those moments in life when you feel closest to God – are often referred to as “mountaintop experiences.” You can experience them anywhere; it’s about your relationship with God not your location. Still, where you are and what you are doing can greatly contribute to those wondrous moments of spiritual clarity.
That’s why First Baptist Church of Cornelia is again holding its Mountaintop Worship Services on, you guessed, top of a mountain. Services will be held throughout the month of October beginning Sunday, October 5 at the historic Chenocetah Tower atop Chenocetah Mountain in Cornelia. Services will begin each Sunday at 9 a.m.
First Baptist Church of Cornelia has done this before and pastor, Dr. Eric Spivey, says it was very successful. He says people like the casual dress and outdoor atmosphere. Alan NeSmith agrees. He’s attended past services with his wife and small children. “It’s hard to feel any closer to God than being in nature. Attending a mountain top service is a great way to worship while enjoying all of God’s natural creations. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed attending First Baptist Church of Cornelia’s service on Chenocetah Mountain lead by pastor Dr. Eric Spivey,” NeSmith says.
Spivey says the setting is appropriate for all ages but be sure to bring your own chair (BYOC) and a coat. “It can get cold on the mountain in October,” he says. Spivey adds, “You do not have to be a “churched” person to enjoy communing with God and nature in this setting.” Spivey says the service will last approximately 30 minutes, allowing time for people to attend and still get to their home church services on time.
