Mountain Voices concert March 13

On Friday, March 13th, Mountain Voices Community Chorus will present their concert entitled “Sing Me to Heaven”. The concert will be held in the sanctuary of Clarkesville Baptist Church at 7:00 PM. Emily Allison and Donna James are conducting. Areatha Ketch and Alyssa Sellers are accompanying.

This session, Mountain Voices welcomes two new assistant directors to the stand. Jennifer Hill and Ben Rikeman are both senior music majors from Piedmont College. They have been active members of Mountain Voices for several seasons and now are taking leadership roles. It is part of the group’s mission to encourage and train musicians for future involvement in this and other choirs.

“Sing Me to Heaven” is a beautiful song by Daniel Gawthrop and the frontispiece of this concert. “Sing me a lullaby, a love song, a requiem, Love me, comfort me, bring me to God: Sing me a love song, Sing me to heaven” are the lyrics that shape the concert. There are songs from the Psalms, old gospel tunes, a lullaby, and a couple of love songs.

Each season Mountain Voices grows and changes depending on who is available to sing for that particular concert. Although there is a core group that sings each concert, there are others who sing only one in the summer or fall or spring. Over 100 singers have been members of Mountain Voices since its founding. The current group of adult singers range in age from 13 to 84. Mountain Voices welcomes new members each season.

The next season begins on April 14th with the concert on June 13th. The summer concert will be “Let’s Go to the Opera” and will feature solos, duets, and choruses from many famous operas. For further information about Mountain Voices, contact Donna James at [email protected].
