A light snow event is possible across the mountain counties of Northeast Georgia overnight Monday as an upper level “Alberta clipper” system moves down out of Canada.
Much colder air will be filtering into the region from the NW behind the latest surge of cold weather. A system diving south out of Canada will bring moisture with it as we move into Monday night. You can see it as the dark orange/red area that moves down from North Dakota to Kentucky in the animation below.
As this disturbance runs into the mountains it will act to squeeze every bit of available moisture out of the air. In this case, that moisture would be snow.
During the overnight and early morning hours, there is a good chance that the mountain counties of Rabun, Towns, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, and the northern parts of White, Dawson, and Lumpkin will see some light snow showers or snow flurries. These snow showers will move in from the northwest beginning around 7 p.m. Monday and last through the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
This is not expected to bring any significant accumulation, however the higher elevations above 3,000ft could pick up 1/2-1″ with a dusting to 1/2″ possible over a larger area of Rabun, Towns, Fannin, Union, and Gilmer Counties.

High mountain pass roads, particularly highways US76, US75/17, US19, and State Road 60, could become slick overnight into the early morning hours.
Use extra caution if traveling through these areas around 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Sunshine will return, and despite highs only being in the 30s, the snow likely won’t stick around long as it sublimates in the very dry air.
