More charges have been filed against a Mount Airy man who allegedly pulled a gun during a road rage incident in Habersham County. Officers arrested 33-year-old Larry Joshua McConnell on October 25 after they say he led them on a chase in Hall County.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says McConnell was driving a stolen vehicle and had an AR-10 rifle in his possession.
Road rage reported
Around 3:49 p.m. Monday, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office issued a lookout for a black Chrysler 300 wanted in a firearm road rage incident on GA 365 South near Alto Mud Creek Road. A state trooper spotted the vehicle near Cagle Road in Lula and attempted to stop it but the driver, later identified as McConnell, fled, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Commander Donnie Sadler.
The pursuit traveled south on Georgia 365 to White Sulphur Road in Hall County. There, McConnell lost control of his vehicle and wrecked, striking a concrete barrier in front of the Quick Trip convenience store.
“After impact, the car veered over a guardrail and came to rest. The driver then fled on foot, with his rifle in hand,” says Sadler.
Officers captured McConnell a short time later after a search by the Hall County K9 unit, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and GSP Post 6 in Gainesville.
EMS treated McConnell on the scene for minor injuries he sustained in the wreck.
Deputies booked McConnell into the Hall County Jail on multiple charges including DUI, felony fleeing, and reckless driving. They’ve since added a host of other charges including theft by receiving stolen property, obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and more than a dozen traffic-related offenses.
So far, all of the charges filed against McConnell have been filed by GSP and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office which handled the initial call has not responded to Now Habersham’s request for information. It remains unclear what, if any, charges are pending against him in Habersham.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, October 26, McConnell remained in the Hall County Jail on a $27,070 bond.
