The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that critically injured a man in Banks County. One of his rescuers was also hurt.

The wreck happened Wednesday evening, August 9, at 1128 Highway 98 in Maysville. When emergency units arrived, they found the pickup truck upside down in a ditch.

“One victim was trapped in the vehicle,” says Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols.

It took rescuers a prolonged time to extricate the injured man, who Nichols says is in his mid-30s. He suffered multi-trauma injuries. An ambulance rushed him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

A Banks County firefighter broke his foot during the incident. Nichols says he was assisting in extrication and got tangled in a winch cable that was being used. The injured firefighter was treated and released at a local hospital.
