Motorcyclists seriously injured in rear-end crash near Clayton

A motorcycle driver and his passenger were seriously injured when an SUV rear-ended them Friday afternoon near Clayton.

The state patrol identifies the couple as 68-year-old William Chaney and 62-year-old Venita Chaney, both of Anderson, Alabama.

According to troopers, Laura Watts, 40, of Clayton was traveling north on GA 15 in the right-hand lane behind the Chaneys who were on a Honda Goldwing. When William Chaney stopped for traffic turning right, Watts rear-ended the motorcycle, ejecting both riders.

Rabun County EMS transported Venita Chaney to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of her injuries.

Watts was not injured in the crash. Troopers say she was following too closely. Charges are pending against her.
