A mother driving with her young daughter was arrested after a high-speed chase on Interstate 85 in Franklin County Monday night.
According to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a Kia Telluride driven by Caylin Jalea Bell, 19, of Ellenwood, around 9:15 p.m. on I-85 South near mile marker 168. The trooper had reportedly clocked the vehicle traveling 98 mph in a 70 mph zone.
Bell allegedly refused to stop and led the trooper on a 7.5 mile southbound chase. Around mile marker 161.5, the trooper conducted a successful PIT maneuver, causing the Kia to crash on the right shoulder of the interstate. Bell surrendered and was arrested without further incident.
The trooper discovered Bell’s 3-year-old daughter in the rear passenger’s side of the Kia. She was in a car seat that was not properly secured, officials say.
Franklin County EMS did a medical evaluation of the child and then released her to her grandparents’ custody. No injuries were reported.
Bell faces multiple traffic charges, including a felony charge for fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement.
