In the calm after the storm, Cornelia resident Lindsey Wade has opened up her home to those in need.
Last Wednesday, via Facebook, Wade extended her home to those who didn’t have any power.
“I have always tried to make sure that everyone around me has everything they need to be happy,” she says.
Wade, a clinical application specialist at Habersham Medical Center, says she didn’t think twice about offering up her utilities.
“Life is too short to only care about yourself and only do for yourself. So why not help others, even if it is just for a quick shower, some clean laundry, or a warm meal? What is the worst thing that can happen?”
Currently, Wade has hosted over 20 people in her home for a free shower, hot meals, and laundry.
It’s not at all an inconvenience, it’s just about doing the right thing and making the most out of what you have.
Wade plans on lending a helping hand “Until everyone has everything they need and are back to their normal everyday lifestyles.” She adds that for her, “It’s not at all an inconvenience it’s just about doing the right thing and making the most out of what you have.”
Even though she is opening her home and heart during this trying time, Wade states that she doesn’t feel she’s special for doing so.
“There are hundreds of people spending every waking hour to clear limbs and debris and fix people’s power, the least I can do is share the power I never lost.”
Wade’s 5-year-old daughter Breelynn has also met the guests with open arms.
“People come over and she automatically makes them all at home and asks them if she can get them anything. She has a love for people’s happiness, just like my dad, and she’s only five. So it’s been fun, and we’ve had great company”.
