Morris Eugene Braswell, 65, of Jonesboro, Georgia passed away on Monday, February 6th at his home in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia, surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11th at the Church of the Resurrection, located at 1755 Duncan Bridge Road in Sautee, with the Reverend Scott Kidd and the Reverend Barry Griffin officiating.

Morris was born in Canton, Georgia to the Reverend Harold and Fay Braswell on February 12th, 1951. As a child, Morris lived in various places around Georgia, including Senoia, Comer, Woodbury, Danielsville, and Monroe. Morris earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Award in 1968, as well as the God and Country Award and Order of the Arrow. As a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, later serving as Vice President of Tau Kappa Epsilon, he attended West Georgia University and graduated from Georgia State University in 1974. On June 8th, 1974, Morris married Madeline Anne Stewart in Augusta, Georgia. He worked for Eastern Airlines for nine and a half (9 ½) years and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 1978. Morris practiced law for eighteen (18) years before being elected Judge to the Clayton County State Court in 1996, where he served until 2016.

Morris lived and loved by example. He dedicated his life to serving others and he always felt honored to have such an opportunity to do so. During his tenure, Morris served as the Chairman of the Tara District Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America for three (3) years, as well as a Member of the Eagle Board of that organization for several years, as an annual participant in Mock Trial Competitions, a four (4) year member of the Board of Directors at the Calvary Refuge Center for the Homeless, a four (4) year Member of the Board of Directors at the Rainbow House, a Member of the Clayton County Commission on Children and Youth for two (2) years, President of the Clayton/Henry County Bulldog Club for one (1) year, a Member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Morrow, as well as vestry Member at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, a Member of the Church of the Resurrection in Sautee Nacoochee, a Member of the Board of Directors at Trinity Towers Senior Citizen Home and Former Counsel for Habitat for Humanity. Morris twice received the Clayton County Bar Association Community Service Award.

Morris is preceded in death by his mother and father, Fay and Harold Braswell and his youngest daughter, Elizabeth Braswell. He is survived by his wife, Madeline Braswell; his oldest daughter and son-in-law, Audra and Evan Bleecker; his sister, Myra Goss; and his grandsons, Penn Morris Bleecker (7) and Levi Wilkes Bleecker (4).
