(Cleveland) – The services at White County’s recreation jewel, Yonah Preserve, continue to grow. Monday, the White County Commissioners voted to accept a Tourism Product Development Grant from the Department of Economic Development for the continuation of the trail development at Yonah Preserve.
The $10,000 grant will be used to get started on a third walking and biking trail. The commissioners also approved some boating policies at the Yonah Preserve lake.
Fishing, but no swimming, is allowed at the lake and the commissioners want to protect the lake because it is a drinking water source for the county. The boating policies approved by the commissioners include: no boats over 16 feet, electric motors only, no gas powered motors, no stand up paddle boards and the commissioners say no live minnows will be allowed, because they pose a threat to the excellent fish population in the lake.
All these policies take affect October 15th, giving the county time to do some work on a boat ramp and erect signage.
The commissioners also discussed plans for a pavilion and bathrooms to be constructed on the property.
You can access the lake at the hiking and biking trails entrance located at 1054 Albert Reid Road north of Cleveland.
