A Wilkes County man missing for nearly a week after disappearing at Tallulah Gorge has been found safe. The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Shannon James Box of Tignall was located and is “in good health.”
He had been missing since Oct. 28, when he was last seen in the area of Jane Hurt Yarn Drive near Tallulah Gorge State Park. His truck was found unattended the following day. Park rangers conducted a brief search and then contacted the sheriff’s office. The Rabun County Search and Rescue team was brought in to conduct a thorough search of the gorge.
Despite their efforts, including foot searches and drone surveillance, officials could not initially locate him. Authorities did not say how or where he was eventually found.
The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office thanked the community for its help in the search.
