The search for a missing Lakemont, Georgia man ended tragically Tuesday when searchers discovered his body at the base of a cliff.
66-year-old Daniel Edgar Kennedy left his residence Monday afternoon on an ATV. He was reported missing shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday after failing to return home.
The Rabun County Emergency Management Agency was contacted and launched a search for Kennedy. They located his ATV around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
“The ATV was down an embankment on its side,” says Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols in a news release. Kennedy was found six hours later following an intense search.
“Shortly after 3:00 p.m., Mr. Daniel was located beneath a rock cliff, deceased,” Nichols says. The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and coroner investigated the scene. Nichols says no foul play is suspected.
Sheriff Nichols adds, “Rabun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Rabun County EMA, Rabun County Fire Service, Rabun County EMS, Georgia State Patrol Aviation, and the Georgia Department of Correction’s K-9 Unit in locating Mr. Daniel.”
