As the soccer season rounds the midway point and heads for the stretch run, plenty of our local programs are in the hunt for playoff spots. Here’s a look at some of the games so far this week.
BOYS
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 3, LANIER 2
The Raiders earned a hard-fought win over Lanier on the road to move to 3-2 in region play and 5-3-2 overall. Still a long way to go, but back-to-back region wins has the boys in a good spot.
WHITE CO 2, MADISON CO 2
The Warriors battled back from down 2-0 on Tuesday night to earn a draw against Madison. The tie moves White County to 4-6-1 overall, and it remains 0-2 in region play. The boys will close out the week with a match against Flowery Branch that looms large with playoff implications.
CLARKE CENTRAL 7, STEPHENS CO 1
The Indians (1-10; 0-2) took a big 7-1 hit to Clarke Central on Tuesday, but the boys have been circling the Friday Madison County game as the one to get. Come out and support Stephens Co as it looks to get a leg up in region play.
GIRLS
LANIER 3, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 0
The Lady Raiders fell 3-0 Tuesday for the third straight loss. Still, Habersham is 3-3 in region and 3-7 overall. The next two region games are very winnable and should prove to clinch a playoff spot for the Lady Raiders.
WHITE CO 5, MADISON CO 0
White County’s season continues to be historic after a 5-0 win over Madison on Tuesday. It was much-needed after the 7-0 record took a hit in two straight losses to powerhouses #3 Marist & #1 Blessed Trinity in back-to-back games. The #9-ranked Lady Warriors are 0-2 in region, but those two losses to the aforementioned giants are the two toughest. However, another powerhouse, #5 Flowery Branch, looms on Friday. The good news is the last three region games feature Denmark, Chestatee, and West Hall, who are a combined 5-23-1. Let that soak in that four top-ten ranked teams are in the same region….ridiculous!
CLARKE CENTRAL 2, STEPHENS CO 1
A tough loss for Stephens, 2-1 on Tuesday. The girls are now 0-2 in region play and 6-5 overall. The Lady Indians have had a tough March, going 1-4 and being outscored 32-6 in the process.
