Men’s swimming dominates on Senior Day vs. Warren Wilson

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. – Piedmont men’s swimming celebrated four seniors and raced past Warren Wilson 846-30 on Sunday afternoon in Tallulah Falls.

Competing in its first overall meet of the spring season and the team’s only scheduled meet at home, the Lions were victorious in all 14 events in which they competed.

Prior to the meet, seniors Leandro Forero, Erick Fortner, Glynn Morgan, Kyle Rutgers and Draylon Starks were honored for their contributions to the program.

Forero and Fortner each enjoyed outstanding afternoons, picking up three solo wins each.

Forero came away victorious in the 1000 and the 500 free along with a win in the 100 fly. Fortner matched his fellow senior, winning the 200 free and 100 breast and breaking his own school record in the 100 IM with a time of 55.15.

In the team’s first race of the day, the 200 medley relay, Morgan and Rutberg team with Sam Teed and Henry Rickman to help deliver a first-place finish to start the day on a solid note.

Starks delivered a second-place finish in the 50 fly with a time of 29.43.

Overall, the Lions saw 12 different athletes pick up a solo or relay victory.

Up next, the Lions will continue their season with a road meet at Mars Hill scheduled for next Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.
