ROME, Ga. – Aaron Martin Del Campo fired an opening round of even par 72 to lead the Piedmont men’s golf B Team in Round One of the Chick-fil-A Invitational on Monday in Rome, Georgia. Men’s golf B team tied for fifth following the opening round of Chick-fil-A Invitational
Playing at Stonebridge Golf Club, the freshman from Guadalajara, Mexico, played an extremely consistent round, making three birdies, three bogeys, and 12 pars for his day.
Del Campo’s season-best performance helped lead the Lions to a 300 team score (+12) as Connor Lane pitched in with a solid 2-over 74 with three birdies overall, including two on par-3’s.
Concluding the team portion of the Piedmont score, freshmen Doug Gugel and Caleb Vancil each made a pair of birdies on their way to 5-over 77.
Jacob DeJesus delivered a non-counting 87 to round out the five on the B Team, while three individuals also competed in the event.
This group was highlighted by rounds of 80 from Ryan Colwell and Kayden White that each included three birdies while freshman Jackson Wyrick carded an 84.
Del Campo sits just three shots out of the individual lead with 18 holes to play tomorrow.
On the team side, LaGrange has separated itself with a -6 team score to lead by 12 shots going into the final round.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with another shotgun start, as Piedmont begins play at 9 a.m.
